Heart Horizons with Black Spyglass

Made of terracotta and painted with engobbi, the Hearts Horizons sculpture has a matte satin finish achieved through a wax patina. This process gives a pleasant soft effect to the eye. Hearts Horizons is a unique work, modeled and painted entirely by hand, embodying the essence of the quest and emotions that accompany the path of love.

The technique used to color “Heart Horizons” is that of engobes, a coating made primarily of clay and water, known since the 3rd millennium B.C. Engobes were applied by brush to red clay, creating three layers to achieve an evenly colored surface. The heart, binoculars, hair, and line on the shirt were painted black, while the shirt and feet were colored white. In heart horizons, the natural color of the terracotta emerges in the ungrooved parts of the sculpture, allowing the original hue of the earth with which the piece was created to be revealed. A light layer of wax was applied over the whole of Hearts Horizons, making it more waterproof and giving it a matte satin effect.
